The San Francisco 49ers signed head coach Kyle Shanahan to a contract extension earlier this past offseason, a team source said on condition of anonymity because the transaction has not been announced publicly. Details about the contract were not disclosed.
Shanahan, 46, is in his 10th season coaching the 49ers. San Francisco’s 27-7 win over the Los Angeles Rams in Melbourne, Australia, in the season opener was his 150th regular-season game with the team, two shy of Bill Walsh for the most in franchise history. The 49ers are 83-67 in those games.
He has also appeared in 14 playoff games, matching Walsh’s total, going 9-5 with two Super Bowl appearances (both losses to the Kansas City Chiefs) and two other trips to the NFC Championship Game.

Shanahan was limited during training camp this summer after suffering a concussion and other injuries in a July car wreck. He steadily resumed his typical duties during the preseason.
