Everything had been going right for USC football on the college football recruiting trail. They have been continually landing big-name recruits, including USC signing Eli Woodard in February.
Since then, Woodard has seen his stock rise and has changed his mind on his commitment, according to Eli Lederman of ESPN.
“Four-star USC WR commit Eli Woodard has decommitted from the Trojans, sources tell ESPN. Woodard is a 6-foot, 185-pound prospect from Temecula, California. Auburn, Cal, Georgia, Miami and UCLA are among the programs expected to pursue ESPN’s No. 245 overall ’27 recruit,” Lederman posted on X, formerly Twitter.
Woodard is originally from the St. Louis area, but moved to Southern California in order to get more exposure. It paid off as USC noticed him and offered him a spot in the class of 2027. At the time, Woodard was excited to join the class, according to Adam Gorney of Rivals.
“I feel like they’re a school that’s really believed in me throughout my whole high school career,” Woodard said. “I feel like every time I go up there, the culture and everything, what they’re trying to build, it’s meant to be. Going into the 2027 class, I see a team that could win a national championship with all their great recruiting classes and all their recruits. It’s coming for sure.”
It seems like NIL demands may have played a factor in Woodard’s decision, as he could be looking for more in a deal. Further, UCLA has already signed Michael Farinas, who is a current teammate of Woodard at Chaparral. UCLA is also working on bringing his quarterback, Dane Weber, into the class of 2027 as well.
