Clemson’s long courtship of OL Carter Jones (6-6 290) of Poquoson, VA, was officially paid off on Monday with Jones announcing his commitment to the Tigers. The others in contention at the end were Tennessee, Penn State and Georgia.
Jones made official visits to his other finalists and is scheduled for his official visit to Clemson this weekend. But he has seen a lot of Clemson dating back to last spring. He camped with the Tigers last summer, was in for a game last season, and attended one of their recruiting events in March.
“Well, they’ve always been one of my top schools for me, and they’ve recruited me really hard and really showed a lot of effort to show me that I’m one of their No. 1 guys and the ’27 class,” he said earlier this year. “That means a lot to me.”
It also means a lot to Jones to be able to be coached by Clemson offensive line coach Matt Luke.
“Coach Luke’s just a really good guy,” Jones said. “He’s always been one of those coaches who likes to take accountability, and you can tell he loves to coach up his guys.”
Carter is the first offensive lineman to commit to the Tigers for their 2027 class, and the 11th commitment overall.
