49ers’ Purdy sends message about dealing with Seahawks, improved Rams

The Seattle Seahawks are the reigning Super Bowl champions, and what was already a talented Los Angeles Rams team got that much better when it acquired star pass-rusher Myles Garrett from the Cleveland Browns this spring.

Meanwhile, the San Francisco 49ers have become somewhat of a forgotten side among outsiders. During a recent chat with NFL Network, 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy addressed the division-related challenges he and his teammates will face this coming fall.

49ers “have to focus on ourselves” while in stacked NFC West

“I think we have probably the best division in the NFL, respectfully,” Purdy said about the NFC West, per David Bonilla of 49ers WebZone. “And I think guys all know that on our team, but it’s not always, ‘Hey, it’s about them, it’s about them.’ We have to focus on ourselves, focus on our craft, and how we’re going to go about training camp and getting ready for the season, and put our heads down, and take it one week at a time. Go from there.”

As of Thursday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook had the Rams as the overall betting favorites at +550 odds to win Super Bowl LXI in February 2027. To compare, the next two teams on the list were at +1000 odds.

San Francisco will open the regular season with a matchup versus the Rams in Melbourne, Australia.

“To go across the world, I don’t know how you prepare for that, but it’s going to be fun just going to Australia, playing our division rival,” Purdy said about that September contest. “For us, we’re going to take it one day at a time, just like I said, and have a good offseason, and be ready to roll for Week 1.”

Brock Purdy gives George Kittle injury recovery update

49ers tight end George Kittle recently said he is “a little bit ahead of schedule” in his recovery from the torn Achilles that he suffered this past January. Purdy spent time with Kittle during the offseason program and this week’s Tight End University event, so the signal-caller knows how Kittle is moving around early into the league’s summer break.

“He’s the most explosive tight end in the NFL,” Purdy said about Kittle. “The energy he brings to our team, his leadership, obviously, I want to be out there Week 1 with him. But we’re going to see. We’re going to take it one day at a time.”

That’s all well and good, but recent updates have hinted that Kittle may look even more like his old self by the time training-camp practices kick off in late July.
