Indiana football and its national championship run sparked conversations at Big Ten Media days. But now one member of that famed title winning team left for the College Football Transfer Portal Wednesday. Edge rusher Triston Abram has bolted from Bloomington.
College football insider for On3 Pete Nakos confirmed the departure. Abram’s exit comes with fall camps set to get underway across the nation including for IU.
Abram also took to social media in announcing his exit. But was reflective on his time at Indiana.
“While I had many choices with where I would play football at the collegiate level, Indiana was my final choice, and that’s a decision that I’ll never regret,” Abram posted. “Indiana allowed me to experience a wonderful college town. It was in Indiana that I met so many supporters and fans. Those of which I will never forget. Indiana also allowed me to become a National Champion, which is something I worked hard for and will always be proud of.”
Head coach Curt Cignetti and his Hoosiers coaching staff landed the state of Missouri’s No. 8 recruit in Abram. He was also the 64th-ranked edge rusher for the 2025 class.
So now he’ll seek a new home with four years of playing eligibility remaining. Yet Abram wasn’t projected to start this season despite some defensive changes. Indiana’s projected rush options per multiple outlets are junior Chiddi Obiazor and senior Tobi Osunsanmi, both coming via Kansas State. Meanwhile, Abram’s next team gains a 6-foot-4, 240-pound rusher with a championship ring in tow.
IU has delivered a strong offseason following its national title run. Including landing five-star wide receiver Monshun Sales on July 17 for the 2027 recruiting class.
