Georgia football news: 4-star safety picks Bulldogs over Clemson

[ad_1]

Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs landed a great pickup in the future secondary, seeing Seth Williams commit to the program.

Williams announced his commitment on Friday, per On3 insider Hayes Fawcett. Hailing from Atlanta, Georgia, he chose the Bulldogs over the Clemson Tigers, BYU Cougars and Auburn Tigers among others.

Williams stands out as a four-star defender with a 90 score on 247Sports. He ranks 19th among players at the safety position as well as players from the state of Georgia. His composite score of 0.8936 puts him at 37th, 45th and 409th nationally in the 2027 class.

“Tall and long defensive back with the range and physicality to make an impact all over the field. Aces the eye test with his high-cut frame and should add good mass in the coming years given the larger features: 6-foot-8 wingspan, 10.5-inch hands. Canny patrolling the post with his foot speed, but can also spin down into the box and drop ball carriers as he uses his agility and vision to match angles,” 247Sports’ Scouting Director Andrew Ivins wrote.

“Constantly runs his feet through contact and produces impressive stopping power. Room to keep improving as a man-to-man defender and not one with a ton of ball production on the resume, but reach gives him a big advantage at the catch point. Should be viewed as a potential Power Four starter with legitimate NFL traits.”

What lies ahead for Georgia amid Seth Williams’ commitment

Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs are looking forward to Seth Williams’ potential when he joins in 2027.

Williams finished his junior season of high school with 73 tackles (2 TFL), one interception, one pass breakup and one forced fumble, per MaxPreps. He also played some offense, catching 10 passes for 222 yards and three touchdowns.

Smart gears up for the 11th year of his head coaching career with the Bulldogs. He is coming off a strong 12-2 campaign in 2025, leading Georgia to the SEC Championship title and the CFP quarterfinals before falling to the Ole Miss Rebels.

Georgia’s 2026 season begins at home. They host the Tennessee State Tigers on Sept. 5 at 3 p.m. ET.
