Alabama football news: Crimson Tide score recruiting win over Miami, Oregon, Ohio State, Georgia

Alabama football added another blue-chip recruit to its 2028 recruiting class Sunday, as four-star defender Tysir Young announced his commitment to the Crimson Tide. The Middletown, Delaware prospect selected Alabama over Miami, Oregon, Ohio State, Georgia, and Rutgers.

Young is ranked among the top defensive prospects in the 2028 class. The 247Sports Composite lists him as the No. 105 overall player, No. 13 EDGE defender nationally, and the No. 1 player in Delaware. Rivals Industry Ranking places him at No. 109 overall. He is listed at around 6-foot-2 to 6-foot-4 and 215 to 220 pounds.

The Crimson Tide’s coaching staff made Young a priority after offering him in March. His first visit to Tuscaloosa came that same month, and linebackers coach Chuck Morrell played a central role in building a strong relationship with the prospect. The consistent communication between Young and Alabama’s staff helped separate the Crimson Tide from the rest of his options.

Young originally planned to wait longer before making his college decision, but Alabama’s pursuit convinced him to commit earlier.

On the field, Young has already produced impressive numbers. During his sophomore season at Middletown High School, he recorded 85.5 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, 14.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles, according to 247Sports.

With Young’s commitment, the Crimson Tide’s 2028 class has reached seven players and remains ranked No. 1 nationally on the Composite, ahead of programs including Ohio State, Georgia, and Penn State. Young becomes the third linebacker in the class and the first Wolf linebacker addition for Alabama.

The Crimson Tide’s 2027 class currently sits at No. 42 nationally, but the program has continued to build momentum in the 2028 cycle with Young joining Jeremiah Beverley and Tyler Younger as edge defenders in the group.
