The Big Ten has transformed into a national powerhouse, and elite quarterback play will determine which teams separate themselves in 2026.
The conference features a mix of established stars, emerging playmakers and future NFL prospects.
These are the five quarterbacks with the biggest opportunity to define the Big Ten race this season.
1. Dante Moore — Oregon
Moore enters the season as the Big Ten’s premier quarterback.
After leading Oregon to the College Football Playoff semifinals, Moore surprised many by returning for another season instead of entering the NFL Draft. His combination of arm talent, accuracy and experience makes him an early Heisman Trophy contender and one of the toughest quarterbacks in the country to defend.
Sayin lived up to the massive expectations surrounding him during his first season as Ohio State’s starter.
After becoming a Heisman finalist and producing one of the most efficient passing seasons in college football, Sayin enters 2026 with the talent and supporting cast to challenge Moore for the top spot in the conference.
3. Jayden Maiava — USC
Maiava became one of the Big Ten’s biggest breakout stars last season.
His aggressive playing style gives USC one of the conference’s most explosive offenses, but limiting turnovers will be the next step in his development. If he becomes more consistent, Maiava has the talent to be No. 1 on this list.
4. Demond Williams Jr. — Washington
Williams is one of the most dynamic dual-threat quarterbacks in the country.
His ability to make plays with both his arm and legs makes him a difficult matchup for defenses. With another year of experience, Williams has the potential to lead Washington back into the Big Ten championship conversation.
Becht brings experience and proven production to Penn State after transferring from Iowa State.
His decision-making, toughness and leadership make him a strong fit for a Nittany Lions program looking to take the next step. With one of the conference’s most talented rosters around him, Becht has a chance to make a major impact in 2026.
