TEAM USA Paralympian Beatriz Hatz Makes History on Love Island USA. #shorts #usa

To truly understand the journey behind this image, we have to look back at the incredible story of Team USA athlete Beatriz Alexa Hatz. Born on October 7, 2000, in Littleton, Colorado, to parents John and Beatriz Hatz, Beatriz was born with fibular hemimelia—a rare congenital condition where the fibula bone in her right leg was completely missing. Before she even reached her first birthday, at just ten months old, her right leg was amputated below the knee.

Growing up in Lakewood, Colorado, Beatriz navigated school and childhood sports with a prosthetic limb, pushing through surgeries and early social challenges by immersing herself in softball, soccer, basketball, and skiing.

Her trajectory changed forever when a high school friend encouraged her to join the track and field team as a freshman. Equipped with her first specialized athletic sprinting prosthesis, Beatriz instantly dominated local competitions and caught the eye of U.S. Paralympic scouts. By 2017, at the World Para Athletics Junior Championships in Nottwil, Switzerland, she swept the international stage, taking home gold medals in both the 100-meter and 200-meter sprints and a silver in the long jump. In 2018, she was crowned the U.S. Paralympic Track and Field High School Athlete of the Year.

Competing in the T64/F64 classification (for athletes with single below-knee amputations), Beatriz made her official Paralympic Games debut at the delayed Tokyo 2020 Games, securing top-five finishes. Her peak international glory arrived at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, where she captured the bronze medal in the Women’s Long Jump T64 with an impressive leap on the world stage. Beyond athletics, Beatriz made cultural history in the summer of 2026 as the very first contestant with a physical impairment to enter the villa on Love Island USA (Season 8), using her platform to champion body positivity, representation, and disability awareness across global media.
