Auburn has a new head coach and quarterback heading into the 2026 campaign. Byrum Brown committed to Auburn, following his former head coach, Alex Golesh, from USF.
In March, the first clips of Brown as QB1 came out.

The immediate reaction was a discussion of the throwing mechanics of Brown. Now, the quarterback and coach are responding to the criticism, according to Chris Low of On3.
“I didn’t pay much attention to it. My dad sent it to me,” said Brown, who would like to tighten up his throwing motion some. “The crazy thing is the same thing happened at South Florida. Somebody posted something from practice, and it was, ‘Oh, look at that motion.’ I just know it hasn’t been detrimental so far.”
Brown became just the 12th quarterback at the FBS level to throw for 3,000 yards and run for another 1,00 yards in 2025. He also led all FBS players, accounting for 42 touchdowns, with 28 through the air and 14 on the ground. With those numbers, Golesh does not understand “what they’re freaking out about online.”
Brown knows playing in the AAC is different than in the SEC, but still expected to be successful.
“I think I speak for all the guys that are coming from South Florida, and that is that we plan to show that we belong on this level and that we can compete with anybody, no matter what conference it is, the AAC or the SEC,” Brown said. “We know it’s a challenge. We know it’s great competition, but we feel like we can play with the best of them, and they brought us here for a reason. It would be truly amazing looking back on it and Auburn’s continuing to have success, that we were a part of that team that helped start that success and see it continuing. So more than anything, you want to be one of those guys that says, ‘We were part of that 2026 football team that helped bring Auburn back to where it should be.’”
While the internet is concerned about the throwing motion of Brown, he is just concerned about winning and getting Auburn back to prominence.
