The Rays are adding decorated veteran reliever Craig Kimbrel to their bullpen on a Major League contract, a source told MLB.com’s Adam Berry. The team has not confirmed the deal.
Kimbrel, who turns 38 on Thursday, was designated for assignment by the Mets on Friday after going 0-2 with a 6.00 ERA and 15 strikeouts in 15 innings. He cleared waivers and became a free agent when he refused a Minor League assignment.
In his career, the right-hander is 56-50 with a 2.65 ERA and 1,297 strikeouts during the course of his 17-year career.
His 440 saves are fifth all-time, but he has not recorded one since he got 23 with the Orioles during the 2024 season.
