Coming off a career-best season, New Orleans Saints defensive Chase Young still has a long way to go in earning league-wide respect.
On Wednesday, ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler shared more results from a recent poll of NFL executives, coaches and scouts, this time revealing the top 10 players at every offensive and defensive position (apologies, kickers. punters and gunners).
The list doesn’t feature many surprises, with Los Angeles Rams edge Myles Garrett a unanimous No. 1 and followed in the top five by Green Bay Packers edge Micah Parsons, Will Anderson Jr. (Houston Texans), Maxx Crosby (Las Vegas Raiders) and Aidan Hutchinson (Detroit Lions).
In total, 19 players were recognized, including three honorable mentions and six others receiving votes.
But despite tallying a career-high 10 sacks and being among the most productive pass-rushers when active a season ago, Young wasn’t part of the class.
Saints defensive Chase Young overlooked in ranking of NFL’s top edge-rushers
Per Sports Info Solutions data, Young ranked first among defensive ends with at least 200 pass-rush attempts in 2026 in pressure rate (24.3 percent). Only Garrett (5.1 percent) and free-agent Jadeveon Clowney (4.6 percent) produced higher sack rates than Young (four percent).
With better health, he may not have been as likely to be overlooked. Young has missed multiple games in three of his six NFL seasons, including five at the start of last season. Even so, he became the first player with at least 10 sacks in 12 or fewer games since Garrett, who had 10 sacks in 10 games in 2019. (h/t Stathead)
Young’s explosiveness was a problem for offensive tackles, with the six-year veteran using a strong initial burst to blow past two-time All-Pro Tristan Wirfs for a sack last October against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
