McFarland, USA is an inspiring sports‑drama film based on a true‑life story from 1987Disney Mov…. After losing his previous coaching job, Jim White, played by Kevin Costner, moves his family to McFarland, a poor, farm‑working town in California where most students come from Latino immigrant families. Many teenagers spend long hours picking crops to help support their families. While working as a high‑school teacher, Jim notices several boys have amazing natural running talent. He decides to build the school’s very first cross‑country running team, even though he has little experience coaching this sport.
The team faces countless difficulties, including poverty, family responsibilities, cultural barriers and doubt from local people. With steady training, trust and hard‑won friendship, these underdog runners surprise everyone and finally compete for the state championship. Coach White grows deeply attached to his students and the community, choosing to stay rather than accept better‑paid jobs elsewhere. More than a victory story, this warm movie explores themes of hope, belonging, teamwork and how sports can change young people’s lives and open up new futures.
