It’s been a long time since the New York Giants have had as much excitement as they do right now. That’s what happens when you have a coach who’s been in the business for nearly 20 years, and has won a Super Bowl, calling the shots.
When the Giants hired John Harbaugh to take over as head coach this year, it brought hope to the franchise. After season after season of disappointment, it feels like things are finally turning around.
Of course, nobody will know if things are truly turning around until the fall rolls around. Harbaugh could fall flat, but that seems improbable. At least, it seems less likely than the team doing better than they have in years this season.
What has John Harbaugh already given the New York Giants?
In one word, Harbaugh is giving the Giants optimism. That’s the word Kevin Patra of NFL.com uses to describe the Giants right now. It’s a good descriptor for the vibe around the franchise.
“John Harbaugh’s arrival has brought optimism to the Giants that they lacked in the past several seasons,” he says. “The longtime head coach knows how to coax the best out of his crew and will be a stabilizing force for the club.”
Optimism without reason means nothing. But Harbaugh has actually done concrete things to earn that hope. The draft was a big test, and he nailed it by drafting Ohio State linebacker Arvell Reese and Miami offensive lineman Francis Mauigoa in the first round. Now, alongside quarterback Jaxson Dart, this team appears fully loaded and ready to go.
