The Ole Miss football program is currently gearing up for the upcoming 2026 college football season, which is slated to get underway in September. The Rebels are now coached by Pete Golding, who took over after Lane Kiffin left to take the head coaching job at LSU in controversial fashion.
Ole Miss is coming off a highly successful 2025 season in which they made it all the way to the semifinal round of the college football playoff, and according to one source, the team has only gotten better over the spring months.
“My biggest takeaway from this spring is this is the most talented team we’ve had from top to bottom in terms of depth and top players (since Kiffin’s arrival at Ole Miss in 2020),” a source said, per Chris Hummer and Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports. ” In 2024, we had really good players, but we didn’t have the depth at certain positions (like we do now). We also have elite players at key positions like quarterback, running back and defensive line.”
Indeed, the Rebels’ offense in 2025 was a hallmark of their success, with quarterback Trinidad Chambliss establishing himself as one of the best in the sport, and now back with Ole Miss after a controversy surrounding his eligibility to return.
However, it’s not just the offense that has insiders buzzing.
“Defense is going to be much improved as a whole,” another source said. “There’s been significant upgrades at all three levels. The d-line has a legitimate 2024 Philadelphia Eagles feel where we can rotate two full units out there and feel very good about ourselves.”
It will certainly be a wild scene when the Rebels host Kiffin and LSU in a highly anticipated matchup this season as the team looks to prove to him that he made the wrong move.
