Oregon football news: Dan Lanning shrugs off concerns about Dylan Raiola transfer after Dante Moore return

Oregon head coach Dan Lanning isn’t worried about the possibility of quarterback Dylan Raiola entering the transfer portal again despite the Ducks returning Dante Moore for the 2026 season.

According to On3, Raiola’s future at Oregon became a topic of discussion after Moore announced in January that he would return to Eugene instead of declaring for the 2026 NFL Draft. Raiola had already committed to the Ducks after transferring from Nebraska, creating one of the nation’s most intriguing quarterback rooms.

Speaking at Big Ten Media Days, Lanning made it clear that Raiola understood the situation before choosing Oregon.

“I think there’s always a looming threat, but not with Dylan,” Lanning said, addressing his concern level at Big Ten Media Days. “I feel that Dylan chose Oregon knowing in advance what does it look like at Oregon. He wanted to sign up for an opportunity to be with us. We were very transparent throughout the process that there was a great chance that Dante (Moore) could be back.”

According to On3, Moore is expected to handle the bulk of the snaps this season as one of the nation’s top Heisman Trophy candidates, while Raiola spends the year learning Oregon’s offensive system, continuing his physical development and preparing to compete for the starting job in 2027.

Raiola arrived at Oregon after an eventful start to his college career. He originally committed to Georgia before signing with Nebraska, where he spent two seasons throwing for 4,819 yards, 31 touchdowns and 17 interceptions before transferring to the Ducks, according to On3.

Lanning’s comments suggest Oregon views Raiola as more than just a short-term backup. Instead, the Ducks appear to see him as the program’s quarterback of the future once Moore’s time in Eugene comes to an end. That approach would continue Oregon’s recent run of high-level quarterback play. The Ducks have consistently developed standout signal-callers in recent years, including current Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix. Plus, Raiola will serve as the clear heir apparent if Moore is unable to play due to injury or other circumstances.

But this Fall for the Ducks and the QB room will certainly be worth paying attention to.
