Patriots fans get worrisome, promising updates about potential A.J. Brown trade

[ad_1]

For months, it has seemed inevitable that Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman would trade wide receiver A.J. Brown to the New England Patriots at some point after the start of June.

On Monday morning, well-known NFL insider Josina Anderson indicated that Brown may not become a Patriots player before Tuesday comes to an end.

Some within the Patriots have “reluctance” to pay big price for A.J. Brown?

“As of late [Sunday],” Anderson reported, “I was told reluctance remains among some segments of the Patriots higher-ranks for giving up any form of a first-round pick for Eagles WR A.J. Brown, but that the plan remains to huddle-up this morning on 11th-hour trade-term stances—including whether they’re collectively okay with giving up a 2028 first-rounder as comfortable middle ground, per league sources.”

Anderson’s update isn’t shocking, as it was said ahead of the weekend that giving up a 2027 first-round pick for Brown “would be a steep price for the Patriots and the kind of return that would probably be viewed publicly as a win for the Eagles” because “the draft class next year is expected to be loaded.”

Meanwhile, Anderson noted that “a 2028 first-rounder has come up in discussions” between the Eagles and the Patriots. She also said that “it was not yet affirmed that this compensation was 100% greenlit, at the time of discussions with sources yesterday.”

Why Patriots fans shouldn’t panic about A.J. Brown trade just yet

As has been the case throughout the spring, it still sounds like Brown will end up a Patriots player sooner rather than later.

For starters, Anderson added that “we all know (Patriots) head coach Mike Vrabel really wants to do what it takes to get his former player & that he’s the heavy finger on the trigger.” Vrabel previously coached Brown when the two were with the Tennessee Titans from 2019 through the 2021 season.

“So the tone of inevitability on a Brown trade still remains from New England’s perspective,” Anderson continued. “For now, it’s just about what’s the ultimate agreement on the complete terms to get it over the finish line, whilst peeking for any left field updates.”

Also, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter said during a Monday morning appearance on Philadelphia sports radio station 97.5 The Fanatic that he expects the Eagles to trade Brown to the Patriots “in the next 24-48 hours.” Schefter also said he doesn’t “expect” a different team to swoop in for Brown this week.
