Patriots RB TreVeyon Henderson listed out for season opener vs. Seahawks

SEATTLE — The New England Patriots will enter Wednesday night’s Super Bowl rematch against the Seattle Seahawks without one of their top offensive playmakers.

TreVeyon Henderson, who hasn’t practiced with the team since Aug. 24, was ruled out of the NFL’s season-opening contest due to an ankle injury.

That sets up Rhamondre Stevenson to take on a massive workload against the NFL’s best defense. All offseason, the Patriots have struggled to find depth behind Stevenson and Henderson, leading to last week’s waiver claim of Corey Kiner, who is the only other healthy running back on the team’s 53-man roster.

Given that, the Patriots will likely call up Lan Larison or Hassan Haskins from the practice squad.

Stevenson was already likely to be the team’s lead running back this season given Mike Vrabel’s continued praise of his consistent work and prowess as a pass protector, but now Stevenson could be in line for 20 or more touches against the Seahawks.

For Henderson, who rushed for 911 yards and nine touchdowns as a rookie in 2025, it’s a tough way to start the season. He suffered the injury while practicing on what looked like a slick grass field at the team’s facility on a day multiple players struggled with their footing.

“Everybody was slipping,” Stevenson said after that practice.

Henderson hasn’t practiced since then, and it’s not clear whether he will be available for the team’s Week 2 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. That gives Stevenson a chance to further his position as the team’s top running back, though a matchup against the Seahawks will be a tough game in which to do so.
