What would you do if you had about $2.5 million burning a hole through your pocket?
Someone decided to use that cash to purchase a one-of-a-kind Shohei Ohtani rookie card on Sunday.
According to Goldin Auctions, an Ohtani 2018 Topps Chrome SuperFractor Rookie Card, graded 9.5 out of 10, was sold at public auction for $2,562,229. The card is a 1-of-1, meaning there is only one of its kind that has been produced.
Ohtani was the AL Rookie of the Year with the Angels in 2018 after recording a .925 OPS in 367 plate appearances and pitching to a 3.31 ERA in 51 2/3 innings. That was the start of what has been one of the greatest careers in MLB history and has obviously contributed to some massive prices in Ohtani’s hobby market.
