The Tennessee Titans waived quarterback Will Levis on Sunday, ending his three-year tenure with the franchise.
Levis, the 33rd pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, compiled a 5-16 record during the 2023 and 2024 seasons. He threw for 3,899 yards and 21 touchdowns against 16 interceptions over those two seasons. In three games of limited preseason action this season, he completed 21 of 39 passes for 200 yards but did not throw a touchdown or interception.
He rushed for 38 yards, but his short stint wasn’t enough to impress the Titans and keep him in a quarterback room that features 2025 top draft pick Cam Ward and 31-year-old Mitch Trubisky, who will likely serve as Ward’s backup.
Levis had a tough three-year run with the Titans. He last played in a regular-season game on Dec. 15, 2024, when he committed four turnovers, threw his fourth pick six of the season and was subsequently benched in a 37-27 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. The Titans started a much-anticipated young QB battle when they drafted Ward a few months later. Yet, Levis missed the entire 2025 season after undergoing surgery to repair the AC joint in his throwing shoulder.

Despite his growing pains, Levis projected confidence earlier this summer that he could carve out a role with an NFL franchise. He told reporters in early August that “there aren’t 32 quarterbacks in this league better than me. I know that for sure. I know I’ve put the tape out there already.”
Levis may have value left in his career. But the window to prove himself in Tennessee shortened after the franchise hired new head coach Robert Saleh and first-year offensive coordinator Brian Daboll during the offseason. Levis entered camp on the final year of the four-year, $9.54 million rookie deal he signed in 2023.
The Titans will go into the 2026 season leaning on Ward, who already set franchise records for passing yards (3,169) and fewest interceptions (seven) by a rookie quarterback with at least 200 pass attempts. He also threw 15 touchdowns last season, although the Titans finished with an abysmal 3-14 record.
Now, Levis will need to clear waivers to have a chance to sign as a free agent.
