Eyebrows were raised when it was recently learned that Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson returned to the Cleveland area this week to work out at the team’s facility.
This happened amid the competition with second-year pro Shedeur Sanders for the starting job that technically was put on pause at the beginning of the NFL’s summer break.
During a Thursday appearance on Cleveland sports radio station 92.3 The Fan, Browns reporter Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer suggested it’s a big deal that Watson was in Northeast Ohio ahead of the July 4 holiday.
Was Deshaun Watson sending a message to Browns coaches?
“I think that one of the interesting developments this week was the fact that Deshaun took it upon himself to come back into town on his summer break,” Cabot said. “He brought his physical therapist, Billy Voltaire, with him from Florida, and he also brought his quarterback coach, Quincy Avery, up here with him. He was out there throwing to some guys. including [tight end Harold Fannin Jr.], which was another interesting development because Harold hasn’t been practicing this offseason. He is recovering from an injury, and we haven’t seen him out there.”
